For brunch on Saturday we went to Virginia's on King. We were seated upstairs, which was a sunny dining room, and more low key than the faster paced downstairs.
The bottomless mimosas were fairly good. Knowing they were bottomless we kind of expected them to be pretty weak - mostly orange juice, but we were wrong!
Our server, Jackie, was wonderful. Very attentive. Constantly refilling our mimosas.
We started with the fried green tomatoes. These were pretty good, nothing too special though.
Two of us had the shrimp and grits. Unlike the shrimp & grits that I have had before, this was done with kielbasa, green peppers and onions. A perfect portion size, it was neither too much nor too little.
My husband had the fried chicken. The chicken was out of this world. The crispy coating was the epitome of finger-lickin' good! The mashed potatoes and collard greens accompanying it were great as well.
The only downside to the meal was our dessert. The four of us split the chocolate pecan pie a la mode. This took forever to get to us and when it came it was a very small piece with no ice cream. It almost did not even taste homemade. To their credit, they did end up taking it off of our bill.
On a side note, we had stopped in our first night in Charleston for their happy hour special - half price bottles of wine. At that time we had the fried chicken livers. I was very apprehensive about trying them, but they were actually delicious.
We would definitely return here for brunch (though I'd ask to be seated downstairs next time) or for half price wine night!
